The Scary Side of Me

I actually enjoyed this assignment! We had to turn off all the lights, sit in front of a mirror and shine a light on one part of our face. Then we had to use white colored pencil on black paper to draw what we saw. It was quite a challenge and almost a different way of thinking because we have been using pencil or pen or white paper up until this point. Even though this looks like something from a horror film I think I got the point of the assignment...thinking outside the box!

Pencil Box

Aww the good old pencil box assignment. Simple assignment, design a box of some sort to hold pencils, pens, etc. I did some research and found that the old way of making pencils was pretty unique and I actually tried to mimic that in my project. A rectangular piece of wood was carved out for the graphite, the graphite was chopped off and then a "top" piece of wood was placed on top to form a rectangle with the graphite in the middle. I chose to use mat board for this project, and painted the outside so it looks more like wood rather than paper. I then scored the edges of the box, folded it, and glued the last edge. I also made the graphite a drawer that held the pencil so that the space wasn't wasted; and inside was another compartment that you could put your eraser, sharpener etc. on. Overall I wish I had created something more creative but I was happy with what I had done.

Practice is definitely helping me get this concept down...here are 2 more profiles, one is of my friend Zach and the other is my friend Chris. Chris has short hair, and they were right when they said people with short hair are harder to draw...it looks nothing like him!!

Profiles of People

I think with this assignment practice will make perfect for me! I don't think the first one turned out as well as the second and I think if I keep practicing I will get better at it. The first drawing is of Shannon & I cant tell it looks like her. However the second one is of Ben Adams and I think it actually looks like him..yea!

Exploring People...

I don't particularly care for this drawing. I think its because it is plain and lacks detail compared to my other ones.

So I went and had lunch at Best Diner on West Market, although I don't recommend the tuna I did get a pretty cool drawing...The lady in the back was so hard to draw though because she had a neck brace on. Someone also made the comment that the other lady in the background looks like Skeeter from Doug lol!

I think the hardest part of this assignment was having the people sit still long enough to complete the drawing! This guy was the perfect model because he was so into his book he didn't move a lot!

I spent a lot of time on this drawing because I loved the architecture of these old buildings..

Egg Project

I like this angle because it gives you a glimpse of everything going on.

I like this shot, it allows you to see the egg being stabbed...gosh, it almost looks like it's being violated...

I love the effect the shadows give this image..it looks so intense!

Top view..I had to stand on a chair to capture this shot!

The shadows make this one look kinda like a spider to me...watch out, he might try to get you!
I'm actually happy with how my egg project turned out. I like how the legs look all crazy but at the same time look nice and clean. I think this would make a cool looking statue on a larger scale. Also, the egg is being stabbed by one of the legs which I think looks very dramatic in the pictures...

So our assignment was to do a negative space drawing of an upside down bicycle...and I did it! I can't believe I actually drew a bike, this negative space thing is really helping me to see the object in a different way...so it's not really a bike, its a series of lines and shapes that surround the bike...

Well I was more concentrated when drawing this one although I think it is just too busy..I would like to go back and draw a third one, maybe with less detail...what do you think? I'd love some feedback! Thanks!

I like the composition of this one but I had a hard time with the angles on the roof and it was hard for me to focus with so much going on around me..hopefully the 2nd will be better!

I thought this assignment was fun! I think it's interesting that my hand turned out to look like something out of a horror movie lol! Believe it or not it actually took a lot of concentration to draw this mess ha!
